Red Honda Civic
This Red Honda is related to BG54 JHU. Both vehicles have been kept in Hollingdean for the past several years, but neither owner is a local resident.
The owner of this Honda arrives in Hollingdean in the early morning (presumedly from home). They then swap this Honda for the works vehicle (BG54 JHU, a white Volkswagen T-Sporter), parking the Honda in the space the van was taking.
They then leave for the day, returning in the evening to swap their van back into the space the Honda is parked in, driving home again in the Honda.
This is a deliberate and conscious, daily action by the (non-resident) owner, keeping space on our street blocked out for their own personal use. It effectively and permanently locks out local residents, blocking them from ever being able to use that area of street parking themselves.
Residents also report that because of the size difference between the (relatively small) Honda and the (much larger) van means that the owner deliberately parks the Honda in awkward positions, blocking yet further space in between other parked cars so that they can fit their van back into the space at the end of the day. This can be seen in the provided photographs.
Sadly, this is one of literally hundreds of non-resident vehicles that use Hollingdean for 'free' parking. This is especially prevalent in the Westernmost corner of Hollingdean, up against Zone G (Hollingbury Road) and Zone J (Fiveways), where non-residents use our streets as part of their commute, as an alternative to buying permits for the area in which they live, or for their visitors, or simply as a place to dump rotting, unwanted and unloved vehicles.
This misuse of our neighbourhoods has far wider-reaching impacts than simply reducing parking spaces for residents; it leads to a notable increase in traffic, noise, pollution, and congestion. Using Hollingdean like this has a demonstrable and significant impact on the residents who live here and could simply be resolved by these owners parking their own vehicles, at their own homes.
