Hollingdean Parking

WJ10 VDY

Red Ford Fusion

  • Residents were disheartened to see this red Ford Fusion appear on Upper Hollingdean Road, at the Ditchling Road end of Hollingdean, just days after the Zone J resident parking permit displayed in its windscreen expired. Since then, it has not moved.

  • It is very clear that this is yet another non-resident vehicle from the neighbouring permit zone (Fiveways), now using Hollingdean as a long-term dumping ground rather than the owner taking responsibility for their own vehicle and renewing their permit for the area in which they live in.

  • This selfish behaviour is incredibly common: as soon as the permit runs out, the car is dumped into Hollingdean, where there are no restrictions, and simply left to rot whilst blocking what little available parking would otherwise be available for the residents who actually live there.

  • This causes continued erosion of parking availability for those who live in the neighbourhood; residents of adjoining zones offload their parking burden onto their doorstep.

  • WJ10 VDY is just one of literally hundreds of non-resident vehicles, and goes to illustrate the growing problem of permit displacement, where non-residents take advantage of Hollingdean’s lack of restrictions at the direct expense of the people who live here.
