White Vauxhall Corsa
This old, white Vauxhall was dumped in Hollingdean with an MOT that had already expired over a year earlier, along with a freshly expired resident permit from an adjoining controlled parking zone in the windscreen, and has not moved since.
Within days of being left, the vehicle’s tax also expired, leaving it both untaxed and without a valid MOT on our public roads.
It is in very poor condition with the tow hook covers removed, suggesting that it had required towing recently (which would align with its poor condition and lack of MOT).
When the vehicle first appeared, residents saw the driver park up, leave the car, and walk off towards Fiveways.
Several people noted that the driver was very deliberately looking around the street, checking signage and the surrounding area, seemingly to confirm that there were no parking restrictions in place before leaving. This immediately raised concern among residents, as it is a familiar warning sign. In many previous cases, this exact behaviour has preceded cars being left here long-term.
Those concerns have since been proven well-founded. The vehicle has remained completely unmoved, with the owner only returning to it once and without moving it, reinforcing the conclusion that it was deliberately offloaded into Hollingdean rather than parked temporarily.
An unroadworthy vehicle left on the street creates more than just a loss of parking space. It becomes an eyesore, raises concerns about safety and legality, and sends a clear signal that Hollingdean is being treated as a place where unwanted vehicles can be abandoned without consequence.
Residents note that this is not the first time that this particular vehicle has been left here long-term, in this way.
For residents, this is particularly aggravating. A car that should not be on the road at all is instead taking up space indefinitely, rotting on the street outside their homes, further reducing already scarce parking and adding to the growing list of vehicles dumped here by people who would not leave them outside their own homes.
