Hollingdean Parking

White Toyota Aygo

  • This white Toyota Aygo began appearing regularly (and overnight and over weekends) in Hollingdean in early April, immediately after the Zone J parking permit, which is still displayed in the windscreen.

  • It is very clear that the owner of this vehicle has simply decided to start using the 'free' parking in Hollingdean rather than pay to renew their resident parking permit further. This is a classic and clear case of displacement parking, and something we see in huge numbers in Hollingdean due to being surrounded on three sides by existing parking zones.

  • Amongst many other things, this misuse of our streets adds signficant pressure to the areas of Hollingdean most close to the vehicle owner's home (in this case - in the Preston Park and Ditchling Road area). As you might expect, the owner of this vehicle will always park their vehicle as close as they can achieve to their home.

  • Even though there’s no charge for parking here (yet), this means that Hollingdean residents have to endure the extra traffic, pollution, and noise that comes from our streets being used as a parking lot, nevermind the fact that it also means residents here can't park anywhere near their own homes!
