CY06 GNK
Silver Toyota RAV4
CY06 GNK is a silver Toyota SUV that arrived in Hollingdean in August and was immediately flagged by residents as another non-resident vehicle dumped on our streets.
Upon arrival, the driver was seen being picked up - along with her luggage - by another car bearing a valid parking permit for a different controlled zone elsewhere in Brighton. This seemed to confirm what residents suspected: the owner had no connection to Hollingdean and had deliberately chosen to leave their vehicle here, rather than make arrangements to park it where they actually live.
The car was then left untouched for nearly a month, occupying valuable space in an already overburdened area. When the driver eventually returned, they were unable to start the vehicle (presumably because the battery had gone flat) from being left for so long.
The scene that followed only added to residents’ frustrations: the driver spent several hours on the street, repeatedly trying to crank the engine, swearing loudly, and accompanied by a constantly yapping dog. The same residents who originally picked her up eventually returned to jump-start her car.
This is not an isolated incident. Residents have photographs of this particular car from December 2024 too, when it was again left unmoved for an extended period of time. It is believed to belong to the student son or daughter of a resident elsewhere in the city, who appears to dump their car here during university breaks before disappearing again.
CY06 GNK is just one more example of how Hollingdean continues to be treated as a long-term vehicle dumping ground by those who live or are visiting elsewhere in the city. Residents are left to deal with the noise, the congestion, and the inconvenience, while others treat our neighbourhood as a free, consequence-free storage site for their cars and their visitors' cars.
