Hollingdean Parking

BF15 HRO

Red Toyota Aygo

  • BF15 HRO is a red Toyota Aygo owned and driven by a non-resident commuter who regularly parks in Hollingdean before walking towards Fiveways, where he is understood to work either at a Fiveways restaurant, or at the taproom next door on Ditchling Road.

  • Unlike many commuters who arrive early and take the first available spaces, this driver often turns up later in the morning (nearer to 11) when the streets nearest to Fiveways are already heavily congested, and parking is at its tightest.

  • At that point, rather than park slightly further into Hollingdean and walk an extra minute, he dumps the car wherever is physically closest to Fiveways, regardless of restrictions.

  • This little red Toyota is repeatedly found fully on double yellow lines or blocking residential driveways. Residents note that this happens even on quieter days when available spaces are visible only a short distance further down the same road. The choice is deliberate; the driver prioritises themselves and proximity over legality or the local residents.

  • There is no ambiguity here. This is not a driver forced into a difficult position by a lack of space. It is someone who repeatedly decides that a shorter walk matters more than whether a neighbour can access their own driveway, or whether school children can safely cross the road around their car blocking visibility on double yellows.

  • When Hollingdean is too full even for this tactic, the car is seen in Fiveways itself, often outside the closed shopfront of Living At Fiveways, or outside of Solutions Barbers. On those occasions, it is often parked next to MT70 FUJ, a silver Renault belonging to another staff member at the same Fiveways establishment.

  • The pattern is clear: when they can't find space to park on our streets, the fallback is to cluster both vehicles as close to the workplace as possible, taking advantage of one being vacant and the other closed.

  • The disruption does not end with where the car is left. Because this driver arrives later than most, he also returns later in the evening, often long after residents are getting home from their own workdays. Residents report loud music playing from the vehicle before departure, and multiple neighbours have stated that they can hear it clearly inside their homes, even with windows closed, when the car leaves after 11 pm.

  • This behaviour creates safety hazards, blocks access, increases traffic friction at an already strained junction, and adds to the cumulative noise and pollution burden carried by this corner of Hollingdean. It is not the result of a lack of options. It is a repeated decision to place personal convenience above basic consideration for the people who live here.
