AK10 VGZ
White Land Rover Freelander
AK10 VGZ has become a familiar sight to residents in the western corner of Hollingdean, though for no good reason.
This large white Land Rover is owned by a resident of Zone G on Hollingbury Road. Instead of obtaining a permit and parking it outside their own home, it is left here for weeks at a time.
The pattern is predictable: the car appears in Hollingdean, takes up valuable space, and then simply sits. Some residents recall it being in the same position for the better part of a month, unmoved. Then it will vanish for a very short period of time and inevitably return to wherever in Hollingdean. Always, wherever the driver is able to park it closest to their own home.
The driver of this Freelander is also well-recognised for parking extremely inconsiderately (and illegally). This vehicle can often be found parked well onto the pavement, or overlapping either double yellow lines or blocking residents' driveways. All in the pursuit of parking as close as they can to their house without actually paying for a permit there, whilst maliciously reducing the quality of life for our residents.
It is impossible that the driver is not acutely aware that they are leaving their vehicle in these positions - particularly blocking driveways - so it can only be assumed that they do it knowingly.
This is not an isolated case. The streets near the Zone G boundary are a magnet for vehicles like this, kept here to avoid the cost or effort of a parking permit. The result is that residents are left circling for spaces near their own homes while non-residents treat Hollingdean as an extension of their driveway.
With the size of this Freelander, the problem is compounded: it occupies more road space than a small car, and when left for extended periods, it reduces the already limited availability even further. The message it sends is clear: our neighbourhood is being used as free long-term storage, with little consideration for the people who live here.
